PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine built a 5-0 halftime lead and cruised to a lopsided season-opening victory, winning 9-0 at the University of Valley Forge on Saturday.
Jolyn Walleekendeh (Trainer, Pa./Chichester) scored four times in her collegiate debut, while senior Meltem Ozdemir (Carney's Point, N.J./St. Mark's) tallied three goals and an assist.
Olivia Esposito (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) and Alyssa Hanrahan (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) both found the back of the net once, while Esposito and Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) each handed out two assists.
Walleekendeh scored 5:43 into the first half and upped the margin to two goals at the 22:23 mark. Ozdemir made the score 3-0 just 1:41 later. Esposito added another tally and Ozdemir made the count 5-0 at the break with a score at the 38:21 mark.
Walleekendeh tallied two more scores during the first 15 minutes of the second half, while Hanrahan and Ozdemir capped the scoring late in the period.
Brandywine outshot Valley Forge 42-2 and put 31 shots on target. Lions' goalkeeper Kiiani Banks (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) debuted with a shutout after stopping the only shot she faced.
Brandywine (1-0) will begin its conference slate Saturday, September 11 at Penn State Scranton at noon.
