ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine was defeated 8-1 by Cedar Crest during its 2016 fall opener on Friday evening in Allentown.

Sophomore Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) was the lone winner for the Lions, claiming her No. 4 singles match in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).

Cedar Crest took all three doubles matches, while four of its five singles triumphs came in straight sets. Senior Heather Gartside (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) forced a deciding third frame with a 6-4 set 2 win during her top flight singles match, but fell in three sets.

The Lions and the Falcons meet again on Saturday, Sept. 10, this time at Brandywine, beginning at 1:00 pm.
