Brandywine Topped By Cedar Crest 5-4

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's tennis team won two of the three doubles matches, but Cedar Crest rallied to win four-of-six singles bouts to claim a 5-4 victory over the Lions on Wednesday afternoon.

Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) and Emily Poprik (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) teamed to win No. 1 doubles by a count of 8-4, while Vidya Nayak (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) combined for a 9-7 victory at No. 3 doubles.

However, Poprik and Breana Kerr (Folcroft, Pa.) were the lone Lions to claim a singles match as Poprik posted a three-set triumph and Kerr won in straight sets. Poprik dropped the first set 6-4, but came back to win the final two sets by matching 6-2 margins to gain victory at No. 1 singles. Kerr posted her victory by set scores of 7-6 and 6-3.

Brandywine (0-2) is back in action Tuesday on its home courts against Immaculata at 3:30 pm.
