Lions Knock Off Neumann For First Win

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season by defeating Neumann University 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Brandywine swept through doubles action to build a 3-0 lead and then won four times during six singles matches to secure the victory.

Emily Poprik (West Chester, Pa./Unionville), Breana Kerr (Folcroft, Pa.) and Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) all won their singles matches in straight sets. Poprik was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles, while Kerr claimed her No. 5 singles bout 6-3, 6-1 and Weir earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory during the sixth singles flight.

Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) was Brandywine's fourth singles winner, rallying for a three-set triumph. She dropped the opening frame 4-6, but came back to win the final two sets 7-5, 10-6.

Poprik and Corey combined for an 8-3 win during No. 1 singles, while Kerr and Weir won by the same score at No. 3. Kate Martin (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) and Vidya Nayak (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) teamed to win their No. 2 doubles match 8-4.

Brandywine plays at Rosemont Monday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
