
Women’s Tennis Earns First United East Victory
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's tennis team claimed its first victory of its NCAA Division III era, earning a 3-2 United East Conference victory over Penn College on Tuesday afternoon. The Brandywine men were also in action, falling by a 7-0 score.
Brandywine, which claimed its first victory since April 18, 2019, won both doubles matches to record the doubles point. The duo of Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Aerynne Mays (Easton, Pa./Wilson) doubled up their opponents in a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Sofia Guzman (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Berchmans) and Adelaide Etshman (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) posted a 6-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Zahran eased to a straight-set win during her top-flight singles bout by scores of 6-0, 6-1. Guzman clinched the match for the Lions by winning at No. 3 singles. She produced a straight-set triumph, winning 6-1, 6-3.
Etshman won six games at No. 4 singles before falling 2-6, 4-6, while Mays won four games at No. 2 singles in a 3-6, 1-6 setback.
For the Brandywine men, Jonathan Parsons (Wallingford, Pa.) led the way by winning three games during his second-flight singles match. He dropped a 1-6, 2-6 decision. Louis Trolli (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and Julian Grossman (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) claimed two games during doubles action before falling 2-6.
Both teams are back in action at home Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM as the Lion women host Notre Dame (MD) and the men host Penn State Berks.
