Brandywine Track & Field Debuts At Golden Ram Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- For the first time, the Penn State Brandywine men's and women's track & field teams competed as a varsity squad as the Lions traveled to the Golden Ram Invitational at West Chester University on Saturday for their inaugural meet.

After having a meet snowed out last week during its first scheduled date of competition, Brandywine faced a field mainly comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III opponents on Saturday.

The Lions' top showing came in the men's 200-meter dash as Nate Sobers (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) finished in the top half of the 48-competitor field in a time of 24:25, while Jasper Seay (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) crossed the finish line 0.61 seconds later and Ezenwa Osuagwu (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) sped to a time of 25:31.

Osuagwu also took 23rd in the 42-man 100-meter dash, while David Irby (Glenolden, Pa./Sun Valley) was 32nd in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:18.

On the women' side, Angelica Rivers (Philadelphia, Pa./W.B. Saul) ran the 400-meter dash in 1:21, while Brooke Theveny (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) crossed the finish line in 7:01 during the 1,500-meter run.

Brandywine, which has seven spring meets scheduled this season, competes at the two-day Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University next Friday and Saturday.
