Lions Split At New Kensington; PSUAC Winning Streak Ends At 27

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine won its first match of the day 3-0 at Penn State New Kensington, but saw its 27-match PSUAC winning streak come to an end during its weekend finale, falling 3-0 against Penn State Fayette on Sunday afternoon.

Brandywine eased to a victory over New Kensington by scores of 25-7, 25-7, 25-14 before being upended by Fayette, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16. The loss to a PSUAC opponent was the first for Brandywine since a 3-1 setback in the PSUAC title game on Oct. 19, 2014 against Fayette and the Lions' first regular-season conference loss since Sept. 30, 2014 at Mont Alto.

Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) totaled 13 kills in two matches, including a team-best nine against New Kensington. She also produced four of Brandywine's 18 aces against PSNK, while Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) accumulated 18 kills, 16 digs and six aces overall.

Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) added 10 kills and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) tallied eight along with 17 digs and four aces. Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) collected 27 assists during both matches.

Defensively, Emily Battista (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) led the way by totaling 25 digs, while Kelsey Zober (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had 14 digs and Rikelle Taylor (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) recorded four blocks.

Brandywine (14-5, 9-1 PSUAC) continues its six-game road trip Tuesday night at Penn State Lehigh Valley at 7:00 pm.
