Volleyball Begins PSUAC Title Defense Tuesday At Rec Hall

MEDIA, Pa. -- Coming off its first-ever Penn State University Athletic Conference volleyball championship in 2015, Penn State Brandywine begins its title defense on Tuesday night in the conference tournament semifinals.

Brandywine, seeded second, will face No. 3 Penn State Mont Alto at 7:00 pm inside Rec Hall. Top-seeded Fayette plays fourth-seeded Lehigh Valley in Tuesday's first semifinal matchup. The winners will advance to Wednesday's title game at 7:00 pm.

Brandywine, which finished the regular season with a 12-2 conference record, split its two regular-season meetings with Mont Alto as each team won on its opponent's home floor. Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) tallied 18 kills and 23 digs in Brandywine's five-set win over Mont Alto on Sept. 20 and added 14 kills and 16 digs during the Lions' home loss three weeks ago.

Poissant tops the conference in kills (260) and aces (64), while ranking third in digs (331). Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) leads the PSUAC in assists with 765 and Emily Battista (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) is fourth in the league in digs (304).

Mont Alto advanced to the semifinals after defeating Greater Allegheny 3-0 on Saturday in the quarterfinals. Mont Alto brings an 18-3 overall record into the tournament with all three of its losses coming in conference matches.

Brandywine will be looking to advance to the conference championship game for the fourth consecutive season. The Lions topped Fayette 3-1 in last year's title game after dropping the previous two against Fayette. The winner of Wednesday's championship match will receive the PSUAC's automatic bid to the USCAA Tournament.
