Brandywine Cruises To Season-Opening Win At Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – For the third-straight season, the Penn State Brandywine volleyball team opened the regular season with a dominating straight-set victory over Rosemont as the Lions won by set scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-11 on Friday night.

Brandywine took advantage of 20 attack errors and 17 receiving errors by the Ravens, while recording 17 service aces. Margot Gargus (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) led the way with five aces, while Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) each produced four.

Gargus and Poissant tied for the team lead with five kills each. Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) added four kills and Civera tallied three. Sarafinas also registered two blocks, as did Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter). Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) dished out 14 assists.

Gargus also topped the Lions with 10 digs, while Poissant and Lauren Kelly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) both recorded eight digs and Civera collected six.

Brandywine (1-0) opens its home schedule on Saturday when it hosts Bryn Mawr at noon.
