Brandywine Downs Bryn Athyn 3-0

MEDIA, Pa. -- For the seventh time in its eight victories, the Penn State Brandywine volleyball team posted a sweep on Monday night, earning a straight-set, nonconference victory over Bryn Athyn by scores of 25-15, 25-7, 25-11.

Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) matched a season best with 18 kills, while Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) collected six kills and Rikelle Taylor (Nottingham, Pa./Solanco) and Lauren Kelly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) both added five. Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) aided the offense with 31 assists and Poissant totaled three aces, while Napoleon and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) each collected two.

Defensively, Napoleon led the team by recording nine digs. Stark and Poissant each added six digs, while Taylor registered three blocks and Stark, Kelly and Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) all tallied two.

During the first set, Brandywine built a 12-5 lead behind five-straight points on kills from Poissant, Stark and Sarafinas and a pair of Bryn Athyn miscues. The Lions led by as many as 12 points following a Sarafinas kill that made the score 23-11, before settling for the 25-15 triumph.

Aided by a trio of Poissant kills, Brandywine ripped off eight consecutive points to establish a 9-2 edge in set No. 2. Poissant totaled six kills during the frame and closed it out with a pair of aces.

Brandywine had no problems closing out the match as the Lions ran out to a 9-1 lead in the third set and, after a Civera ace made the score 12-2, would lead by double figures the rest of the way.

Brandywine (8-2, 2-0 PSUAC) returns to conference play on Wednesday at Penn State Schuylkill beginning at 7:00 pm.
