Brandywine Completes Season Sweep Of Hazleton

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team bested Penn State Hazleton for the second time this season, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-17), to complete the season sweep on its home floor Wednesday night.

Brandywine pushed its conference record to 5-0, while both of second-place Hazleton's conference losses have come to Brandywine.

Jade Maloney (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) led the way with 11 kills and 13 digs, while Lauren Kelly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) coupled a team-best 16 digs with seven kills. Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) also registered seven kills each.

Napoleon and Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) both collected three aces, while Julia Miles (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) handed out 31 assists. Miles added 13 digs on the defensive end, while Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) collected 11 digs and three assists.

Brandywine capped a 5-1 spurt during the first set with a Maloney kill to open up a 16-9 advantage. Hazleton rattled off three-straight points, but another Maloney kill ended the visitors' run and Brandywine would lead by at least five points the rest of the way.

The Lions pulled away during set No. 2, reeling off an 11-2 run to build a 20-7 lead, and never looked back.

Hazleton kept the final frame close, trailing by just one at 10-9, but Kelly set down a kill and Napoleon followed with an ace, helping Brandywine open a 17-11 margin. Back-to-back kills by Sarafinas closed out the set and the Brandywine sweep.

Brandywine (7-9, 5-0 PSUAC) hosts its annual Dig Pink Weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend begins with four matches Saturday, starting with a noon bout against Moravian College.
