Brandywine Eases Past Scranton 3-0

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine served up 25 aces as the Lions raced past Penn State Scranton on Tuesday night in Penn State University Athletic Conference volleyball action, winning in straight sets (25-15, 25-9, 25-9).

Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter), this week's USCAA Player of the Week, set down 11 aces, while Jade Maloney (Claymont, Del./Brandywine) added six, Julia Miles (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) recorded four and Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) tallied three.

Napoleon also contributed nine kills and 11 digs. Maloney and Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) both registered eight kills, while Miles handed out 18 assists. Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) notched five assists and seven digs.

Scranton led 5-4 during the first set, but Brandywine broke the set open by reeling off five-straight and 10 of the next 13 points, establishing a 14-8 lead. The Lions grew their edge to 10 points on three occasions and finished off the first frame with a kill from Alsatia Haas-Tome (Norwood, Pa./Interboro).

The Lions built an 18-6 lead during set No. 2, recording seven-straight points, including all four of Maloney's aces. Brandywine never looked back, adding each of Civera's aces to grab a two-sets-to-none lead.

Brandywine closed out the match with a 13-2 surge to end the third set, including five of Napoleon's aces.

Brandywine (11-12, 8-0 PSUAC) welcomes Rutgers-Camden on Thursday for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 PM.
