Rutgers-Camden Downs Brandywine 3-0

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-9) non-conference loss to Rutgers-Camden on Thursday night on the Lions' home floor.

The teams were tied 7-7 during the opening set before RUC used an 8-2 spurt to build a 15-9 edge. Brandywine cut the deficit to five points on three occasions, the final of which brought the score to 21-16 following a Scarlet Raptor error, but Camden collected the final four points to win the first set.

Brandywine hung tough during the second frame, using a kill from Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) and a Rutgers-Camden miscue to get within 18-14. However, Brandywine did not trim the margin lower than four the rest of the way and the Scarlet Raptors built a 2-0 advantage.

Rutgers-Camden established a 12-6 lead during the final set and extended the margin by scoring 13 of the final 16 points to end the match.

Brandywine received five kills from Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) and Stevens. Julia Miles (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) dished out 17 assists and added four digs and two kills.

Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) recorded a team-best nine digs, while Alsatia Haas-Tome (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) collected eight and Stevens totaled six.

Brandywine (11-13, 8-0 PSUAC) returns to PSUAC play on Saturday when the Lions host Penn State Schuylkill at 7:00 PM.
