Brandywine Continues Unbeaten Run Through PSUAC

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine has won all nine of its Penn State University Athletic Conference matches in straight sets as the Lions continued their undefeated run through the league, defeating Penn State Schuylkill 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine (12-13, 9-0 PSUAC), the only undefeated team in the conference, can clinch the No. 1 seed from the East Division with one victory during its final three conference matches.

The Lions received a career-high 12 kills and four blocks from Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West), while Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) added eight kills and Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) and Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) both tallied eight.

Julia Miles (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) dished out 19 assists and Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) collected eight helpers.

Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) topped all players with 11 digs, while Napoleon collected 10 digs.

Brandywine breezed through the first set, registering eight of the final 10 points to win 25-13. Spurred by a 9-1 surge, the Lions opened up a 17-6 edge during set No. 2 and then tallied four-straight kills to close out the frame.

The Lions had to battle back from six points down in the third set to earn their ninth straight-set victory. Trailing 16-10, Stevens set down a kill to start Brandywine's rally. Sarafinas recorded three-straight kills, including one that tied the set for the first time at 17-17. The teams traded points until a Schuylkill service error gave Brandywine the lead for good at 21-20. Kills by Civera, Coacher and Napoleon helped put the match away.

Brandywine hosts Penn State Berks in a non-conference match on Monday night at 7:00 PM.
