Brandywine Tops Valley Forge; Wins Third-Straight Match

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine earned its third-straight volleyball victory by topping the University of Valley Forge in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-8, 25-14 on Monday night.

Brandywine fended off the hosts in a back-and-forth first set to claim the three-point victory following Gianna Anthony's (Newtown Square, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy) ace. The Lions took advantage of 11 Patriot errors to win the second set with ease and then pulled away during the final set to sweep the match, their eighth-straight on the road to begin the season. Brandywine led 13-10 during set No. 3, pulling away behind three kills by Kira Thorne (Alconbury, England/Alconbury) and three service aces, including two from Alsatia Haas-Tome (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) that put the game away.

Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) led all players with seven kills, while Hannah Sarafinas (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) added six and Thorne collected five. Rebecca Gonzalez (Clearwater, Fla./Washburn Academy) dished out 18 assists and joined Haas-Tome and Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) with three aces.

Anthony paced the Lions by tallying nine digs and four service aces. James totaled seven digs, while Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) recorded five digs.
