Brandywine Sweeps Wilkes-Barre On Senior Night

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a Senior Night sweep of Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Monday, winning by scores of 25-6, 25-9, 25-5.

The team's lone senior, Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett), recorded 23 assists, seven digs and two kills during her final regular-season home game.

With the victory, Brandywine officially clinched a home PSUAC Tournament quarterfinal match on October 28. Brandywine will be either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed from the PSUAC East Division.

The Lions received eight kills from both Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Mackenzie Kelly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East), while Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) chipped in four. Kelly also tallied a team-high seven aces and Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) added four aces.

Swenson and Breanna McDermott (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) tied for the team lead with seven digs.

Brandywine scored the first eight points of the opening set behind three kills from Floyd and two from Berry and never looked back, claiming set No. 1 going away, 25-6.

Four consecutive aces from Kelly opened up a 12-4 edge during the second set. Wilkes-Barre closed within seven at 15-8, but a 6-0 spurt, aided by three aces from McDermott, helped Brandywine pull away and take a 2-0 advantage.

The third set was tied 2-2, but 12-straight Brandywine points opened up a 14-2 margin and the Lions swelled the lead to 21 points before settling for the 25-5 triumph and sweep of the match.

Brandywine (11-6, 9-1 PSUAC) plays its final two matches on the road beginning Tuesday at Penn State Scranton at 7:00 pm.
