Brandywine Wins Third-Straight Match, 3-0 At Scranton

DUNMORE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team survived a first-set scare from Penn State Scranton and then rolled in the final two sets to earn a 3-0 (28-26, 25-6, 25-13) road victory on Tuesday night.

Brandywine trailed by as many as five points during the opening set at 14-9 before rallying. Kills by Jordan Thompson (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Dana Palmer (New London, Pa./Avon Grove) aided a run of 8-1 that put the Lions back in front by a 23-20 count; however, Scranton countered with the next three points and overcame a pair of set points by Brandywine to grab a 26-25 lead. Mackenzie Kelly (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) set down consecutive kills to vault Brandywine back in front and Thompson closed out the set with another kill, giving the Lions a 28-26 triumph and one-set edge.

Set No. 2 belonged to Brandywine as the Lions led 9-4 before ending the frame with a 16-2 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Brandywine led the final stanza 9-7, but a 6-1 spurt capped by aces from Kelly and Thompson moved the margin to 15-8. Scranton closed to within seven at 20-13 before Brandywine collected the final five points of the set to earn the sweep.

Kelly led all players with 10 kills and tallied three aces, while Thompson and Palmer both collected six kills. Thompson also added four aces and Floyd registered five kills and three aces. Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) also produced three aces, while Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) dished out 16 assists.

Brandywine (12-6, 10-1 PSUAC) closes out the regular season Thursday at Penn State Hazleton at 7:00 pm.
