Cross Country Headed To PSUAC Championships

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine cross country teams will race for the Penn State University Athletic Conference championships on Saturday at Penn State Mont Alto. The men's title race gets underway at 1:00 pm and will be followed by the women's race at 2:00 pm.

Brandywine is the league's defending women's champion, while the men's team has finished as the conference runner-up during the last two years and is in search of its first league crown.

Each of the PSUAC teams have already competed on the Norlo Park course having run at the Mont Alto Invitational earlier this fall. At that meet, Brandywine freshman Anya Tyler (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) posted the top time by a female PSUAC runner, while sophomore John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and Alex Troncelliti (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) both placed in the top six of the men's race.

Tyler has been the top women's runner for Brandywine all season as she smashed both the Brandywine 5K and 6K records. Brooke Theveny (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) took 14th place at Mont Alto and has competed is the only runner to have competed in all seven races this fall, while Meredith Simpson (Wenonah, N.J./Ursuline Academy) will be seeing the Norlo Park track for the first time after joining the team midway through the season.

Li, who owns the top three 8K times in program history, will be looking to earn all-conference honors for the second-straight year. He ran to third place at the PSUAC Championship as a freshman, claiming first team accolades, while also earning a berth in the USCAA National Championships.

Troncelliti has been one of the top runners for the Lions all year, posting his top 8K time at the Rowan Invitational (30:26) three weeks ago. Senior Henry Lee (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and freshman Raheem Naughty (Philadelphia, Pa./Boys Latin) also finished in the top 20 during the team's first race at Mont Alto.
