Brandywine Athletics Hall Of Fame To Induct Three New Members

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine Athletics Hall of Fame will add three new members as the class of 2023 was announced on Thursday. The fourth hall of fame class includes volleyball student-athlete Miranda Biondi-Gorgoni, men's soccer student-athlete Terry Montgomery and three-sport student-athlete and women's basketball coach Mary Varano Zecca.

The class of 2023 will be inducted during an on-campus ceremony on Friday, February 3, 2023.

Miranda Biondi-Gorgoni was a record-setting standout for the volleyball team from 2013-16. The only four-time First Team All-Penn State University Athletic Conference performer in team history, Biondi-Gorgoni became the Lions' first volleyball player to earn all-American honors when she was named to the second team by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association in 2016.

Biondi-Gorgoni completed her four-year, 104-match career with a team-record 2,169 assists, 397 digs and 327 aces. She led all USCAA players with 103 service aces during her junior season.

As a senior, Biondi-Gorgoni helped lead Brandywine to its first-ever PSUAC volleyball championship and appearance at the USCAA Tournament. She also became Brandywine's first USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year and was named John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete as the top student-athlete in the PSUAC.

Biondi-Gorgoni graduated from Penn State Brandywine in 2017 with a degree in human development and family studies and currently works as a human resources manager at New Era Technology.

Terry Montgomery was a two-time First Team All-Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference standout for the men's soccer team from 1981-82 under hall of fame coach Ron Case. As a sophomore, Montgomery was the fifth-leading scorer in the CCAC, tallying six goals and six assists as he helped Penn State Delco reach the conference championship match.

Following the completion of his sophomore year, Montgomery was named John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the CCAC, the first-ever student-athlete from Delco to earn the distinction.

He graduated from Penn State in 1985 with an accounting degree. Currently, Montgomery serves as audit committee chair at Remedial Construction Servies, L.P., NAPEC, Inc., and MWH Contrsuctors, Inc., while also holding the role of director at Glenfarne Merger Corporation.

Mary Varano Zecca was one of the first three-sport student-athletes to compete at Penn State Delco. From 1989-91, Varano Zecca competed on the women's basketball, tennis and volleyball teams.

Varano Zecca, the first-ever female student-athlete from Delco to earn the John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete Award, helped the volleyball team to its first-ever winning record and led the women's basketball team to a berth in the conference tournament semifinals during her sophomore season. She was also a member of the CCAC championship-winning tennis team.

After graduating from Penn State, Varano Zecca returned to campus as the head women's basketball coach for two seasons, guiding the Lions to 14 victories and the CCAC championship game in 1994-95. Varano Zecca currently works as a registered nurse in the Main Line Health - Riddle and Trinity Health - Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.
