Gorgone Claims PSUAC Hitter Of The Week

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior centerfielder John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) was selected as the hitter of the week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Gorgone went 3-for-6 at the plate in three games last week, collecting a triple, five RBI, four runs scored and three walks as Brandywine took 2-of-3 three games from Penn State Scranton. In game one on Friday night, he worked three walks and scored three of Brandywine's 13 runs in a 13-2 victory. Gorgone then went 2-for-3 in the series finale, collecting a bases-clearing triple and a season-high four RBI.

Behind his big week at the plate, Gorgone pushed his batting average to .333 overall this spring. He ranks third in the conference with 14 hits and fourth in runs batted in (9). Earlier this season, Gorgone tallied the 100th hit of his career in Florida against Miami-Hamilton. He is also approaching 100 runs scored (89) and RBI (85) during his four-year career at Brandywine.

The Lions' conference game at Penn State York scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed. Brandywine will host Penn State Schuylkill on Friday night at Maple Zone in the opener of a three-game weekend series (6:00 pm).
