Segich And Spitaletta Earn USCAA Hitter Of The Week Honors

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) was named national softball hitter of the week, while freshman Robert Spitaletta (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) landed baseball hitter of the week honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday.

Segich, who earned her second hitter of the week award this season, collected eight hits in 21 at-bats last week for a .381 average as the Lions won five-of-six games against PSUAC foes. She hit her first home run of the season in a 9-3 victory over Penn State Hazleton, helping the Lions secure the top seed in the PSUAC Tournament for the third consecutive year. She also added nine RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases.

After leading the USCAA in stolen bases as a freshman, Segich is again atop the nation in steals with 30 in 26 games this spring. She owns a .476 batting average and has scored 28 runs, while knocking in 15. Segich brings a 10-game hitting streak into Thursday's home doubleheader against Franklin & Marshall.

Spitaletta delivered nine hits last week, including a pair of key knocks during two come-from-behind victories for Brandywine. His two-out, ninth-inning single plated the game-winning run on Tuesday against Penn State Schuylkill. Three days later, Spitaletta tied the game with an RBI single during the bottom of the seventh inning of the Lions' 5-4 triumph over Penn State Hazleton.

In 20 games this spring, Spitaletta is batting .333 with 15 runs scored and 11 RBI. He owns an on-base percentage of .423 and has stolen four bases. Since returning from injury on March 24, Brandywine is 12-3 with Spitaletta in the starting lineup.

The Lions host Clarks Summit on Wednesday in their home finale at 4:00 pm.
