Masi, Samohod Sweep PSUAC Baseball Weekly Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was selected as the Penn State University Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, while teammate Joe Samohod (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) earned the Pitcher of the Week award the league announced on Tuesday.

Masi hit .545 with six hits in 11 at-bats last week as Brandywine locked up the top spot in the PSUAC Eastern Division by winning 3-of-4 conference games. Three of his six hits went for extra bases and he also added five RBI and two stolen bases.

On the season, Masi is batting .315 with a team-high 26 runs batted in and 17 extra-base hits, including three home runs. He has stolen 14 bases in 14 tries, while also scoring 18 runs in 31 games.

Samohod earned his second pitching award in the last three weeks as he went 2-0 with a 1.50 earned run average and nine strikeouts in two starts last week. The winning pitcher in Brandywine's division-clinching victory over Schuylkill on Saturday, Samohod went 6.0 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three.

Samohod owns a 4-2 record this spring with a 3.34 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 35.0 innings on the mound. Against PSUAC teams, Samohod has pitched to a 3-0 mark and allowed only four earned runs in 27.0 innings over a span of five appearances.

Brandywine (16-18, 12-3 PSUAC) will meet the No. 2 or No. 3 seed from the PSUAC West Division when the conference tournament begins in Scranton on May 7.
