Martin Luther Sweeps Brandywine In Florida Twin Bill

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Martin Luther claimed a pair of victories over Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Field, winning by scores of 5-3 and 12-0 in Spring Break baseball action from Florida.

In game one, Brandywine's comeback bid fell short after falling behind 5-0 through two innings.

Martin Luther plated an unearned run in the first inning, while Tyler Roecker and Jared Lindemann each knocked in two runs with hits one frame later.

The Lions immediately answered with three runs in the third, started by Tommy Crumlish's (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) leadoff home run over the left field fence.

Brandywine loaded the bases with one out as T.J. Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) worked a walk and Robert Spitaletta (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) and Andre Pendleton (Narberth, Pa./Harriton) recorded back-to-back singles. Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) knocked in the Lions' second run of the frame after he was issued a bases-loaded walk and Brendan Ricciardi (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) followed with a sacrifice fly, plating Spitaletta.

Brandywine put runners in scoring position during each of the ensuing four innings, but was unable to muster any further runs as the Lions fell short.

Spitaletta went 3-for-4 at the plate and stole a base, while Pendleton collected a pair of hits. Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) took the loss on the mound as he allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out five in a complete-game effort.

The Knights scored during every inning of game two, collecting 13 hits to run away from Brandywine.

Tyler Michaels (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) fell to 0-3 after surrendering eight runs during the first 2.2 innings. Spitaletta, Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Brett Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) all tallied singles to account for Brandywine's three hits.
