Brandywine Holds Off Valley Forge 9-6

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine scored seven times in the second inning and held off Valley Forge to win 9-6 in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday night.

Brandywine led 1-0 after one inning as Tyler Brooks (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) scored on Kyle Oechsle's (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades) sacrifice fly before exploding for seven second-inning runs.

Back-to-back walks put two runners on base for Hayden Altimari (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Anthony), who blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence. Four batters later, Brandywine had the bases loaded with one for Oechsle, who lifted his second sacrifice fly of the game. An error allowed two more runs to score before Mike DeGirolamo (Fredrick, Md./Fredrick) recorded an RBI single that plated Oechsle to cap the scoring.

Dalton Palmer's (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) bases-loaded single added the Lions' ninth run of the night in the seventh inning as Oechsle, who walked to start the frame, crossed home.

Valley Forge scored four times in the ninth inning and brought the potential game-tying run to the plate, but a flyout to Palmer in right field ended the threat.

Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) earned his first victory of the season on the mound. He recorded seven strikeouts, while allowing two runs on five hits. Ricky Palmer (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) pitched a one-two-three eighth inning, fanning one.

DeGirolamo posted three of Brandywine's eight hits, while Oechsle scored twice, drove in two runs and stole a base. Brooks also cross home twice, while Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) both stole two bases.

Brandywine (5-5) is idle until Wednesday, March 23 when the Lions host New Jersey City at Maple Zone in a 6:00 PM game.
