YORK, Pa. -- Penn State York claimed the final two games of a three-game weekend series against the Penn State Brandywine baseball team, winning by scores of 4-3 and 12-6 on Saturday afternoon at People's Bank Park.
Game One: Penn State York 4, Penn State Brandywine 3
Brandywine held a 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before the hosts stunned the Lions with a three-run rally.
Dan Nearey (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) had limited York to one run on one hit through five innings, but back-to-back one-out singles followed by Carter Williams' three-run home run gave York the lead.
Jack Hedger (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) scored Mike DeGirolamo (Fredrick, Md./Fredrick) with a groundout to put Brandywine on the board first in the second inning. The Lions added two more runs in the fourth when Hedger singled in Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Hayden Altimari (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored following an error.
York registered its first hit of the game in the fourth, an RBI single by Williams to cut the margin to 3-1.
Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) represented the tying run at second base in the seventh inning after leading off the frame with a double, but was left stranded.
Baughman and Wright both produced two-hit efforts for the Lions, who tallied six hits overall, while Altimari stole a pair of bases. Nearey limited York to four hits and struck out three in 5.1 innings, but took the loss on the mound.
Game Two: Penn State York 12, Penn State Brandywine 6
York outslugged Brandywine to claim the rubber match of the three-game series, winning 12-6.
Brandywine scored twice in the first inning, but York immediately answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the first. The hosts took the lead with five runs in the second inning and after the Lions' rallied, busted open a one-run game with four tallies in the fifth.
Baughman walked, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch, while Wright singled in Tyler Brooks (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) to put Brandywine up 2-0 in the first.
After York scored seven-straight runs, Brandywine rallied to within one by plating four in the top of the third inning. Brooks started the frame with a double and three batters later, came around to score on Kyle Oechsle's (Coopersburg, Pa.Palisades) groundout. Altimari pushed Wright across with a base hit and then scored via York error. Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) provided the inning's final run with a two-out, RBI single.
York scored four runs on four hits in the fifth to pad its lead and tacked on one more score in the sixth to provide the final count.
Brooks went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and stolen base, while Wright, Altimari, Oeschle and Skeans all had a hit and drove in a run. Baughman added his third hit of the afternoon, but took the loss on the mound.
Brandywine (6-9, 1-2 PSUAC) looks to bounce back Thursday when the Lions visit Rosemont at 6:30 PM.
