Brandywine Completes Series Sweep Of Scranton

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine claimed both ends of a doubleheader to finish off a three-game series sweep of Penn State Scranton on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions won the opener 13-4 and took the nightcap 5-2.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 13, Penn State Scranton 4

Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) went 5-for-5 at the plate and Brandywine plated seven runs to blow the game open in the sixth inning in winning game one. Baughman singled three times, doubled and tripled to record Brandywine's first five-hit game since Tom Osenbach tallied five knocks against Penn State Beaver on April 19, 2015.

Baughman singled, stole second and scored on Tyler Brooks' (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) base hit to start the scoring in the first. Brandywine took a 2-0 lead when Julian Clark (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) stole home later in the frame.
After Scranton cut the margin to one, Clark singled in Baughman to push the lead back to two runs in the second.

Kyle Oechsle's (Coopersburg, Pa./Palisades) groundout scored Brooks and Shaun Lima's (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) single plated Hayden Altimari (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Anthony) to provide two more runs in the fifth before the Lions pulled away with a seven-run sixth.

Brooks tallied a run-scoring single, while two runners crossed home on Altimari's groundout. Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) added a two-run triple, while Max Tavarez (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) recorded an RBI double and scored on Baughman's single.

Keaton Janiszewski (Dunedin, Fla./Keswick Christian) capped the Lions' scoring with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Brooks and Jack Hedger (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) both collected two hits, while Altimari drove in two runs and scored twice and Clark crossed home twice. Brooks also stole three bases, while Clark swiped two.

Dan Nearey (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) pitched the first five innings, earning his second win of the season. He fanned five and allowed three runs on four hits.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 5, Penn State Scranton 2

After producing a 17-hit attack in game one, Brandywine needed just three hits in game two to claim the victory.

Greg Adams (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) went all seven innings to earn his second victory of the spring. He collected eight strikeouts, while surrendering two earned runs on five hits.

Brandywine got into the scoring column first during the fourth inning as Wright walked to start the frame, moved to third on Brooks' double, and scored via Altimari's sacrifice fly.

Another sacrifice fly, this one from Clark, upped the margin to 2-0 in the fifth. Brandywine added two more runs during the frame after Wright tallied an RBI single and Baughman crossed home following a wild pitch.

Nasir Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside-Chestnut Hill Academy) stole two bases and scored on a Scranton throwing error in the sixth to give the Lions a 5-1 edge.

Brooks, Wright and Jimmy Carey (Springfield, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) accounted for the Lions' three hits, while Lamar Thomas (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Performing Arts) scored a run and stole two bags.

Brandywine (12-9, 7-2 PSUAC) is back at Maple Zone Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader against Penn State Berks at 4:00 PM.
