Brandywine Drops One-Run Games At Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill won the final two games of a three-game Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball series, defeating Penn State Brandywine by scores of 2-1 and 8-7 Saturday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Schuylkill 2, Penn State Brandywine 1

A pitchers' duel broke out in game one as the teams combined for three runs on 10 hits.

Greg Adams (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) went the distance on the mound, allowing just two runs on four hits, but took the loss. Adams struck out three in six innings of work.

Brandywine put a runner on the base paths in every inning, but pushed across just a single run during the second inning. Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) started the second with a base hit and came around to score three batters later on Cam Baughman's (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) line-drive, two-out double to center field.

Schuylkill evened the score in the bottom of the second and took the lead with a run-scoring double in the fifth.

Baughman, Skeans and Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) all tallied two-hit games for the Lions. Skeans reached base safely three times after working a walk, while Wright recorded a stolen base.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 8, Penn State Brandywine 7 (9 innings)

A walk-off home run by Jake Leininger to lead off the ninth inning was the difference after Brandywine rallied from three runs down late in the game.

Trailing 7-4 entering the sixth inning, Shaun Lima (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) lifted a solo home run over the left field fence to cut the deficit to two.

One frame later, Brandywine tied the count during its final at-bat. Wright led off with a base hit and scored on Hayden Altimari's (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Anthony) single to make the score 7-6. After a walk to Skeans and an error loaded the bases, Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) worked a base on balls to force in the game-tying run and send the game to extra innings.

Baughman and Wright tallied their second two-hit games of the day, two of Brandywine's five players with a pair of hits. Altimari, Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) and Tyler Brooks (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) also collected two knocks. Webb scored two runs, while Abegg drove in two and stole a base.

Ricky Palmer (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) pitched the final 4.2 innings in relief, allowing just one earned run on three hits.

Brandywine (14-13, 8-4 PSUAC) plays Central Penn during its final non-conference games of the season Tuesday beginning at 4:00 PM.
