Seniors Land PSUAC Men’s Basketball Honors
MEDIA, Pa. -- Three seniors from Penn State Brandywine's championship-winning men's basketball team were honored with all-conference accolades on Sunday as the Penn State University Athletic Conference announced its end-of-year awards. Terrence Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) claimed first team laurels, while James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby) was named to the second team and Donte Winfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) earned honorable mention.
Brandywine's first men's basketball student-athlete to be named first team since 2012-13, Brown dominated inside during his only season at Brandywine. In 26 games, Brown averaged team bests in scoring at 18.8 points per game and rebounding (8.1). He produced nine double-doubles with eight of them coming against PSUAC competition.
During 18 games versus conference foes, Brown reached 20 points on 11 occasions, including back-to-back 30-point performances during the middle of January. Brown finished sixth in the conference in scoring and stood ninth in the PSUAC in rebounding.
Fisher is Brandywine's top three-point threat, having made 66 three-pointers this season and 229 during his 82-game career. He ranked sixth in the PSUAC in three-point shooting despite missing eight games due to injury.
Overall, Fisher scored 16.4 points per outing in 18 games, finishing 10th in the conference in scoring. On Sunday, during Brandywine's championship victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre, Fisher scored nine points, moving up to third on the Lions' all-time scoring list with 1,191 points.
Winfield, the team's starting point guard, tied for eighth in the conference and topped Brandywine after dishing out 3.5 assists per game. He also finished second in the PSUAC in free throw shooting, knocking down 113 of 129 attempts, a rate of over 87 percent.
Brandywine's third-leading scorer, Winfield recorded 14.6 points per game, including five 20-point efforts during the team's final eight games, while shooting 42 percent from the field.
In addition, senior Isaiah Lester (Morton, Pa./Ridley) named as the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award winner. Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season. Lester netted a season-best 22 points in Brandywine's semifinal victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday and averaged 2.6 points per game overall this season.
Brandywine, which won its first-ever conference championship on Sunday, owns a 20-7 record entering the USCAA Tournament, which begins next week in Uniontown, Pa.
