Brandywine Receives Three Men’s Basketball All-American Awards At USCAA Banquet
MEDIA, Pa. -- Awards continued to roll in for the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team on Tuesday night at the USCAA postseason awards banquet as three Lions were named all-American. Senior Terrence Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) claimed first team honors, while classmates James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby) and Donte Winfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) landed honorable mention accolades.
Brown, Brandywine's fourth first team all-American in program history, also earned first team all-conference laurels from the Penn State University Athletic Conference recently. The Lions' leading scorer and rebounder, Brown ranks 13th in the USCAA, averaging 18.8 points per game. He also tied for 23rd nationally after pulling down 8.1 boards per outing in 26 games.
A 46 percent shooter from the field, Brown registered a team-best nine double-doubles. He produced 13 20-point performances, including a streak of six-straight games from Jan. 5-19. During that stretch, Brown poured in over 30 points in back-to-back games during wins at Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State Wilkes Barre.
Fisher produced his best season at Brandywine in 2017-18, averaging 16.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He topped the team and ranked 16th in the USCAA with 66 three-pointers despite missing eight games due to injury. At the free throw stripe, Fisher shot 80 percent, while also connecting on 41 percent of hits attempts from the field.
On Dec. 5, Fisher became the sixth player in Brandywine men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points. His total stands at 1,199, the third-highest total by a Lion in the 49-year history of the program, entering the USCAA Tournament.
Winfield, who played in all 26 games, led the Lions by averaging 3.5 assists per game, while also scoring 14.6 points per outing, the third-highest total on the team. He finished the season strong, scoring over 20 points four times during the team's final five games, capped by a 25-point effort in the PSUAC Championship on Feb. 18.
One of the top free throw shooters in the USCAA, Winfield sank 87.6 percent of his shots from the charity stripe, the third-best mark nationally. His 113 made free throws are also the fourth-highest total among USCAA men's basketball players.
Brandywine, which owns a 20-7 record, begins the USCAA Tournament Thursday afternoon against NHTI at 3:15 pm. The Lions, who claimed their first-ever conference championship, featured USCAA All-Americans for the first time since 2012-13.
