Brandywine Ends Day One Of USCAA/PSUAC Championships In 17th Place

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine golf team got the United States Collegiate Athletic Association/Penn State University Athletic Conference Championships started on Monday morning and sits 17th in the field of 20 teams following the first round on Penn State University's Blue Course.

Brandywine, which also finished 17th nationally last season, ranks seventh among nine PSUAC teams in the race for the conference championship. The PSUAC Championship runs concurrently with the USCAA National Championship each year.

The Lions totaled a team score of 353 and sit four strokes off the pace of Penn State Schuylkill and five behind Penn State Lehigh Valley. St. Mary of the Woods leads the national tournament after combining for a five-under-par team score of 283, while Penn State Fayette paced the PSUAC Championship by collecting 325 strokes.

In a field of 113 individuals, Austin Aurillo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Rustin) leads the Lions, sitting in a four-way tie for 67th. Aurillo shot an opening-round 83, while Connor Sadoff (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) is two shots behind Aurillo after carding an 85.

Brad Dawson (Southern Pines, N.C./Pinecrest) and Jacob Sezna (Avondale, Pa./Salesianum) are tied entering the final round as each recorded 89 strokes.

Sean Illanovsky (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) tallied 92 shots and Nick Anderson (Phoenixville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) rounded out the Lions by firing a 103.

The low individual round of the day was shot by SUNY ESF's Sean Barron, who recorded a four-under-par 68.

The final day of the USCAA/PSUAC Championships begins Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM.
