Brandywine Finishes Third At Home Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine golf team claimed a third-place finish during its second-annual home invitational Monday afternoon at Springfield Country Club.

Brandywine's top four scorers produced a team score of 324 strokes, 11 off the mark set by Penn State Hazleton. Penn State Lehigh Valley was second at 320 strokes.

Payten Bussmann (Glen Eagle, Minn./Sauk Centre) won the women's medalist honors by carding a personal-best round of 86. She topped her previous top round set at last year's conference championship by 10 strokes.

Brandywine's men were paced by Zak Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), who finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a round of 79. Alex Barone (Glenolden, Pa./Concord) was seventh with an 18-hole score of 81, while Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) and Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) posted identical rounds of 82 to tie for eighth.

Marge Reynolds (West Chester, Pa./Westtown School) carded a 92 and Nathan Sauder (Pittsgrove, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) totaled 95 strokes. Round out the Lions were Jared Morris (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton), who recorded a 96, and Tommy McNulty (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie), who finished with 99 strokes.

Penn State Hazleton's Jeremy Harper was the men's individual medalist after shooting a round of 72.

Brandywine is back on Thursday, September 22 at the Albright Invitational.
