Brandywine Shares PSUAC Invitational Title; Bussmann Claims Women’s Crown

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine tied for the low team score, while Payten Bussmann (Gray Eagle, Minn./Sauk Centre) claimed women's individual medalist honors at Monday's Penn State University Athletic Conference Invitational at Penn State's Blue Course in State College.

Bussmann fired a round of 89, the second-lowest, 18-hole total of her career, to earn the women's title.

As a team, Brandywine compiled a score of 325 to match Penn State York for first place. The invitational title was the second in Brandywine's six-year history. The Lions took first place at the Penn State Schuylkill Invitational during the 2018 season.

Individually, Brandywine's low round of the day came from Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie), who carded a 79. Cavanaugh finished in a three-way tie for fifth place with his lowest round of the season.

Zak Karlton (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Nathan Sauder (Pittsgrove, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) shot identical rounds of 80, placing in a for eighth in the field of 63 golfers.

Tommy McNulty (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) totaled a personal-best 86 strokes, while Alex Barone (Glenolden, Pa./Concord) tallied an 87. Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) compiled a round of 92 and Marge Reynolds (West Chester, Pa./Westtown School) totaled 105 strokes.

Brandywine competes in one more round prior to the PSUAC/USCAA Championships this Thursday at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational.
