Crochunis, Welden Sweep PSUAC Weekly Men’s Soccer Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A pair of Penn State Brandywine men's soccer players were selected for Penn State University Athletic Conference weekly awards on Tuesday as senior Brandon Crochunis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) was named offensive player of the week and sophomore Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) earned goalkeeper of the week. Welden also claimed United States Collegiate Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Week.

Crochunis and Welden led Brandywine to a pair of victories over NCAA Division III teams last week, improving the team's record to 2-0-1.

Crochunis scored a pair of goals in each game, netting the first two of Brandywine's five scores in a 5-1 victory at Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday before collecting the only two goals of the match in a home victory over Immaculata Saturday. His pair of goals against the Mighty Macs broke the scoreless deadlock late in the second half and were scored just 34 seconds apart.

Crochunis, the team's second-leading scorer in 2017, is tied for the PSUAC lead with four goals through three matches.

Welden recorded the second shutout of his career, blanking Immaculata over 90 minutes. He stopped all nine Mighty Mac shots he faced, including seven during the second half. In addition, he made four saves four days earlier versus Gwyned Mercy.

Overall this fall, Welden has played every minute in net for Brandywine and owns a .897 save percentage and 0.93 goals-against average, both the top marks in the PSUAC.

Brandywine opens a six-game road trip Wednesday at Penn State Abington (4:00 PM).
