Crochunis, Welden Key Brandywine Victory Over Beaver

MONACA, Pa. -- Brandon Crochunis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) scored three times and Brandon Welden (Essington, Pa./Interboro) stopped all nine shots he faced as the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team topped Penn State Beaver 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine led the match for 89:20 as Crochunis wasted no time in scoring, finding the back of the net just 40 seconds after the opening whistle.

Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) took a feed from Daniel Willie (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and deposited the Lions' second goal at the 24:38 mark  and Crochunis upped the margin to 3-0 just after halftime, scoring on a goal assisted by Ronaldo Calle (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville).

Brandywine continued to pour on the offense in the second half, tacking on three more goals. Willie scored at the 55:38 mark, while Crochunis completed his three-goal day in the 79th minute. Steve Medvid (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) capped the scoring with 7:52 to play.

Welden was tested throughout the match and was up to the task each time, totaling nine stops. Eight of his saves came during the final 45 minutes as he completed his second-straight PSUAC shutout.

"This is a huge conference win for us on the road against a very good Beaver team. We finished our chances today and that allowed us to dictate how the game went," said Head Coach Jesse Zafiratos.

Brandywine (4-2-2, 2-0 PSUAC) has less than 24 hours to rest before its next match. The Lions complete their weekend in western Pennsylvania Sunday at Penn State Greater Allegheny at noon.
