Brandywine Rolls In PSUAC Opener

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team won its 36th-straight conference match as the Lions cruised to a 6-1 victory over Penn State New Kensington in the Penn State University Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.

The Lions erupted for four first-half goals from four different goal scorers.

Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) tallied the first goal and less than four minutes later Luke Segner (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) netted his first collegiate score to double the Lions' lead.

Ronaldo Calle (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) made the score 3-0 in the 37th minute and Walton Tucker (Garnet Valley, Pa./West Nairobi School) added a goal just before the halftime buzzer to extend the margin to four.

New Kensington brought the count to 4-1 midway through the second half, but goals by Axel Ayllon-Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), on a penalty kick, and Nathan Bowman (York, Pa./York Suburban) accounted for the final score.

Brandywine outshot New Kensington 26-7 and put 18 of its attempts on goal. Juan Guerrero (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) stopped four shots to earn his second win and reserve net minder Zachary Ritz (Woodlyn, Pa./Ridley) blocked the only shot he faced late in the second half.

Brandywine (3-2-1, 1-0 PSUAC) visits Washington Adventist Tuesday night at 6:00 pm.
