Cordova Bernal, DeBooth Earn PSUAC Weekly Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's Alexis Cordova Bernal (Oxford, Pa./Avon Grove) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while goalkeeper Elijah DeBooth (Reading, Pa./Wilson) was selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Cordova Bernal got the comeback started during the championship match of Brandywine's home tournament on Sunday. He scored the Lions' first of three second-half goals on a penalty kick during the 64th minute. Ten minutes later, Cordova Bernal assisted on Raymond Kelly's (Middletown, Del./Middletown) goal that got Brandywine within one.

One day earlier, DeBooth stopped all four shots he faced to blank Carlow in the tournament's opening round. He made seven more stops Sunday against Salem, while playing all 180 minutes in net during the weekend.

Brandywine eventually forced a draw through 90 minutes against Salem and a shootout decided the tournament champion. Cordova Bernal was successful on his shooutout attempt, while DeBooth stopped two of the three penalty kicks he faced to help Brandywine secure the title for the second-straight year.

DeBooth owns a 2-0-1 record in three starts this year and a 9-1-2 mark during his career, while two of Cordova Bernal's 10 career goals have come this fall.

Brandywine faces Immaculata Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
