Brandywine Throttles York In Conference Opener

YORK, Pa. – Five-time defending conference champion Penn State Brandywine began Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer play by routing Penn State York 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions, now unbeaten in 67-straight league matches, received three goals from Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn). Lex Smith (Centreville, Va./ASU Preparatory Academy) and Jayden Barragan (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) both produced two goals and two assists, while Zack Bardwell (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) chipped in the scoring with his second goal of the season.

The combination of Smith and Barragan linked up for the Lions' first three goals of the game as Smith scored off Barragan feeds during the 20th and 31st minutes, while Barragan took a Smith pass at the 21:40 mark and found the back of the net.

Barragan tacked on his second goal 32 minutes into the first half. Manful and Bardwell added to the Brandywine lead late in the opening period as the Lions held a commanding 6-0 margin at the break.

Smith found Manful with a crossing feed and Manful deposited his second goal of the game during the 57th minute. He completed his hat trick with less than 20 minutes to play in regulation.

Making the first start of his career, Patrick Corley (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) needed to stop just one shot to earn his first win and shutout. Brandywine held a 25-2 edge in shot attempts and recorded all nine of the match's corner kicks.

Brandywine (3-0-2) steps back into non-conference play Thursday at home against Albright (4:00 PM).
