Brandywine Splits Matches With Delaware Valley

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's tennis team was a 5-4 winner over Delaware Valley University, but the Lions' women's tennis squad dropped a 7-2 decision to the Aggies at home on Wednesday afternoon.

Brandywine's men picked up a pair of points during doubles action as Wenceslao Lara (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Twp.) and Victor Ficarra (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) won their No. 2 matchup 8-2 and Stevie DiSipio (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and James Cellucci (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) claimed their No. 3 match 8-0.

Lara and DiSipio were also triumphant during the singles round. Lara posted a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at top-flight singles, while DiSipio won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

Aryaman Bhardwaj (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood) delivered the final win of the afternoon for the Lions, claiming a 6-4, 7-5 victory during his No. 3 singles bout.

Both of Brandywine's women's points came via default.

Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) and Breana Kerr (Folcroft, Pa.) pushed their opponents to the brink at No. 2 doubles, but fell just short by a score of 9-7.

Emily Poprik (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) won the first frame of her top-flight singles match 6-4, but was upended during the next two sets 6-2, 10-0.

Corey earned seven points at No. 3 singles, falling 6-3, 6-4, while Kate Martin (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) picked up six points before falling 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Both teams are back in action Saturday afternoon against Gwynedd Mercy at 1:00 pm.
