Brandywine Posts A Pair Of 8-1 Victories

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams both claimed 8-1 victories over the College of St. Elizabeth on their home courts Thursday afternoon.

Each team swept doubles action and then claimed five-of-six singles contests to earn the wins. The Brandywine men won for the fourth-straight outing, upping the team's record to 7-2, while the women landed their second victory of the season.

All five the women's singles triumphs came in straight sets for Brandywine. Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) eased to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 and Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) claimed a sixth-flight win by the same count.

Vidya Nayak (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) won a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 3, Breanna Kerr (Folcroft, Pa.) posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 andKate Martin (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) claimed at 9-7 triumph at No. 4 to round out women's singles action.

James Cellucci (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) won his No. 6 singles bout 6-1, 6-1, while Stevie DiSipio (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and Aditya Kommoju (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) were both 6-2, 6-1 winners.

Ian Lillard (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) added a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 and Wenceslao Lara (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) won his top-flight singles match 6-3, 6-4.

Lara and Arymana Bhardwaj (Lilburn, Ga./Brookwood) were 8-6 winners during doubles action, while Kommojust and DiSipio combined for a 8-1 victory and Lillard and Cellucci won 8-0.

Corey and Emily Poprik (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) swept their doubles contest 8-0, while the team of Martin and Nayak combined on a 8-4 victory and Weir and Kerr posted a triumph by a count of 8-6.

Brandywine's women round out the season Wednesday at Rosemont, while the men are at home Thursday to face Williamson.
