Brandywine Competes At Millersville Metrics

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine track and field teams continued the spring outdoor season Saturday afternoon at the Millersville Metrics.

Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) broke his own school record in the 1,500-meter run, besting his two-week-old mark by more than 17 seconds with a time of 4:28.10. Abel was the fourth of 14 runners to cross the finish line during his heat and placed 34th overall.

During the 5,000-meter race, Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) set a new personal best and ran the second-fastest time in program history after placing 22nd in a time of 18:44.89. Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) also ran to a second-fastest time in team history when she completed the 400-meter sprint in 1:04.88. Her time was sixth-fastest during her flight and 25th-best overall.

Dan Zimmerman (Cheyney, Pa./Rustin) ran the 200-meter sprint in 25.88 seconds, while Miko Allen (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) crossed the finish line during the 100-meter sprint in 12.76 seconds. Allen also fired the shot put 9.99 meters to take sixth during his 12-man flight and 31st overall.

Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) had the second-longest throw of the 11 men in his javelin flight at 34.33 meters, finishing 32nd overall. He also placed 33rd during the discus with a long heave of 27.09 meters.

Brandywine is back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Pollard Invitational hosted by Moravian University.
