Brandywine Competes At Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's track and field teams continued the outdoor season on Saturday afternoon as the Lions competed at the Widener University Invitational.

Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished in the middle of the 91-woman 800-meter field. Her time of 2:29.59 was 43rd fastest.

For the men, Ryan Cassidy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) set a team record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, completing the race in 11:49.54 to take 24th place.

Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) and Sam Dikeumunna (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) both set personal bests in the 800-meter run. Abel's time of 2:10.76 was less than a half-second off school-record pace, while Dikeumunna ran to a time of 2:19.27. That same duo competed at 1,500 meters as Dikeumunna set another PR with a time of 4:53.41 and Abel posted a time of 4:37.51.

Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) also collected his top 5,000-meter time, crossing the finish line in 18:39.18.

Brandywine had three competitors in the shot put. Miko Allen (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) topped the trio with a long throw of 9.27 meters, while Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) produced a heave of 9.24 meters and Anmol Singh (King of Prussia, Pa./Lower Merion) recorded a throw of 7.57 meters.

Allen also competed in the 100-meter sprint, recording a time of 14.34 seconds. Daniel Zimmerman (Cheyney, Pa./Rustin) ran to a time of 26.16 seconds at 200 meters and finished the 400-meter run in 57.23 seconds.

Brandywine travels to Elizabethtown for the Blue Jay Tune-Up next Saturday beginning at 10:00 am.
