Brandywine Wraps Up Season At Penn State's Jim Thorpe Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine track and field teams competed at their final meet of the 2019 season when the Lions took part in Penn State University's Jim Thorpe Open, consisting of NCAA Division I and Division III competition, on Friday.

Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) ran the second-fastest 800-meter time of her career, placing fourth in 2:32.39.

Caleb Madison (Brookhaven, Pa./Delaware County Christian) led a pair of Lions in the shot put when he set a new school record with a heave of 29.99 meters. Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) finished one place behind Madison in 10th position with a throw of 25.79 meters.

Madison and Lyon both set personal bests when they finished back-to-back in the javelin, taking sixth and seventh positions. Lyon's top toss was 34.60 meters and Madison's went 34.17 meters, while Anmol Singh (King of Prussia, Pa./Lower Merion) was eighth (29.66 meters).

Singh and Lyon rounded out the field portion of the action for the Lions as Lyon's top throw was 9.06 meters and Singh posted a toss of 8.41 meters during the shot put.

Daniel Zimmerman (Cheyney, Pa./Rustin) collected a pair of top-10 finishes, running to fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.63 seconds) and eighth at 400 meters (57.87 seconds).

John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) clocked in at 2:24.31 in the 800-meter dash to claim ninth and was also ninth in the 1,500-meter run (4:45.72). Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) topped four Brandywine runners at 1,500 meters with a time of 4:42.34, while Ryan Cassidy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) crossed the finish line in 4:54.79 and Sam Dikeumunna (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) completed the race in 4:57.71.
