Brandywine Opens Indoor Season At Princeton

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's track and field teams got the 2019-20 indoor season underway at Princeton University's New Year Open on Saturday.

Highlighting the meet for the Lions, which did not feature team scoring, was eight top-five finishes on the day.

A pair of team records were also set as Liz O'Brien (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) ran the 400-meter sprint in 1:04.43, topping the old mark by more than three seconds, while Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) posted a top throw of 10.24 meters during the shot put, placing fourth, with a new team benchmark.

O'Briend also took 10th during the 60-meter dash (8.39 seconds) and Dallas Barber (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) was right behind her, crossing the line in 8.41 seconds. Barber's time of 51.91 seconds during the women's 300-meter sprint was good for 16th.

Alex Rosenberry (Etters, Pa./West Shore Christian Academy) ran to a second-place finish during the mile run in a time of 5:09.89, the third-best mark in team history, while Ryan Cassidy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) was third (5:22.10). During the women's mile race, Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished fourth with a time of 5:44.04 and Angel Asomugha (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) took eighth in 7:32.41.

Luca D'Aprano (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) notched a runner-up showing during the men's 600, posting a time of 1:48.63. Nwabueze Onyemachi (Aldan, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) competed in the 300-meter and 60-meter dashes, taking fourth at 300 meters (38.56 seconds) and 16th at 60 meters (7.41 seconds).

Rounding out Brandywine's field competitors was Kassandra Pierre-Louis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Cultural Acad. of Arts & Sciences), who recorded a long toss of 6.16 meters to claim 12th in the shot put.

Brandywine will be idle for more than a month before returning to competition on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Franklin & Marshall's Diplomat Open.
