Abel Sets Brandywine 8K Record At Salisbury Invitational

SALISBURY, Md. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass/Amesbury) broke his own program 8K record to highlight the Lions' final regular-season meet of the year Saturday morning at Salisbury University's Don Cathcart Invitational.

Abel bested his previous mark, which he set last year in Salisbury, by 39 seconds, running to a time of 26:55. He now owns six of the top seven 8K times in school history. Abel's time on Saturday was good for 27th in a field of 146 runners.

Alex Rosenberry (Etters, Pa./West Shore Christian Academy) was the second Lion to cross the finish line, placing 44th (27:41) as his time ranked third-best in Brandywine history.

Stephen Heck (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) posted a time of 29:22 to rank 83rd, while Alex Consadene (Andover, Conn./RHAM) was 95th (29:58). Ryan Cassidy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) recorded a time of 30:23 to place 100th.

Angel Asomugha (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) represented the Lions' women's team, finishing her 6K race in a time of 33:12, more than six minutes faster than her previous personal-best 6K time this season. Overall, each of Brandywine's runners recorded personal-record times on Saturday.

In the team standings, Brandywine's men finished 10th in a field of 15 NCAA Division I and Division III teams.

Brandywine has three weeks to prepare for the PSUAC Championships on Oct. 26 at Norlo Park.
