Offense Stays Hot As Brandywine Moves On

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ten hours after a 16-hit, 12-run performance in a victory over Penn State Beaver, Penn State Brandywine's offense kept the momentum going, collecting 13 hits during a 9-3 triumph over Judson College (Ala.) on Tuesday night at the USCAA Softball World Series.

Morgan Meoli (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway Regional) and Haley Grossi (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) both contributed three hits, two runs scored and one run batted in, while Fiona Warren (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Back-to-back two-out hits by Meoli and Warren gave the Lions a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Lions tacked on three more runs two frames later as Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) singled in Meoli and Grossi and Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) tallied consecutive run-scoring doubles.

Judson climbed within 6-3 after four innings, but Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) delivered a two-run single in the fifth and Rachel Cherubini (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) added a RBI base hit in the seventh to pad the Lions' lead.

Alexandra Szpindor (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was the beneficiary of the offensive support as she won her seventh game of the spring. Szpindor struck out a pair and yielded three runs, firing her 10th complete game.

Brandywine (25-17) gets a rematch with Penn State Hazleton Wednesday morning at 10:00 am after the Lions dropped their World Series opener to Hazleton on Monday.
