MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine softball team finished off a two-day, four-game sweep of Central Maine on Tuesday, winning by scores of 8-3 and 7-3 to improve to 10-2 on the season.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 8, Central Maine 3

Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) struck out 11 Mustangs for the second day in a row and all nine starters recorded a hit, combining for 13 overall, in the opener.

Cassario upped her record to 5-0 by going the distance, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits.

Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City), Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) all tallied two-hit games for the Lions. Ferry added three RBI and two runs scored, while Landis drove in two runs and Rees scored twice. Gianna Terpolilli (Hammonton, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) reached base safely three times, scored twice and stole a base.

Rees and Landis recorded back-to-back, two-out doubles to put Brandywine on top 1-0, but the Mustangs evened the score during the bottom of the first.

Ferry legged out an inside-the-park, two-run home run down the left field line for the first of four third-inning runs for the Lions. After Rees and Landis followed with base hits, James drove in Rees with a single and Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) pushed across Landis with a base hit.

The Lions tacked on three more runs in the sixth as Ferry doubled in a run and later scored on Cassario's single, while Landis drove in Terpolilli with a groundout.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 7, Central Maine 3

Ferry went 3-for-3 and homered for the second-straight game to help Brandywine complete the four-game sweep.

Terpolilli registered two hits and two RBI, while Rees had another two-hit game and Sam Bagosy (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) tallied two hits and scored once. James upped her stolen base total to eight with a pair of steals and scored two runs.

Ferry singled, stole second and scored on Farrell Everett's (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) two-out single in the first, putting Brandywine in front 1-0.

James walked and Bagosy singled to begin the second inning. Three batters later, Terpolilli delivered a bases-loaded single that plated both James and Bagosy to up the margin to 3-0. One frame later, James scored via wild pitch to add to the Lions' lead.

Central Maine closed to within 5-3 after six innings, but Ferry's two-out, two-run home run gave the Lions a four-run cushion once again in the seventh.

Rebecca Halford (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) earned her fourth victory of the spring after striking out seven hitters in 7.0 innings of work. She yielded three runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Brandywine (10-2) plays its first road doubleheader of the spring on Saturday at Widener with first pitch slated for 1:00 PM.
