Brandywine Wraps Up PSUAC Regular-Season Title In Finale

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine claimed the Penn State University Athletic Conference regular-season title for the second-straight year and matched a single-season team record with its 27th victory as the Lions split a season-ending doubleheader with Penn State Schuylkill Friday afternoon. Brandywine won the opener 4-3 and dropped game two, 3-0.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 4, Penn State Schuylkill 3

Brandywine got the victory it needed to secure the PSUAC regular-season title for a second consecutive year in game one.

Gianna Terpolilli (Hammonton, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) delivered the go-ahead single in the bottom of the sixth inning with what proved to be the game-winning run.

The Lions trailed 1-0 and had just one hit entering the bottom of the fourth, but struck for three runs on four knocks. Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) got the offense started with a leadoff home run, her first of the season, that evened the score. Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) followed with a double and moved to third on Crystal Cassario's (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) infield single. Destiny Brophy (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) put the Lions on top with a single, scoring Rees, before Terpolilli lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, adding Brandywine's third run.

Schuylkill scored twice in the sixth to tie the game, but Terpolilli gave Brandywine back the lead during the bottom half of the inning. Rees singled to start the frame and moved to second when Brophy walked. Two batters later, Terpolilli sent a blooper down the left field line that allowed Rees to score and help Brandywine retake the lead.

Cassario made the one-run lead stand up by holding Schuylkill off the board in the seventh. She struck out eight batters, while allowing three runs on eight hits to claim her 14th win of the season.

Game Two: Penn State Schuylkill 3, Penn State Brandywine 0

Schuylkill got even with a game two victory behind the pitching of Kaely Walshaw, who allowed just two hits.

Landis' first-inning single and Meghan Ferry's (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) bunt single in the sixth accounted for the lone knocks for the Lions, who also worked three walks.

Schuylkill got all the scoring it needed in the first inning on following Walshaw's three-run home run.

Cassario surrendered the home run and received the loss, while Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley)  pitched the final six innings. Moore did not allow a run, while limiting Schuylkill to just three hits.

Brandywine (27-10, 16-2) begins its PSUAC Tournament run Friday at Maple Zone against an opponent still to be determined in search of a seventh-straight conference tournament title.
