Brandywine Stays Alive With 7-2 Victory Over DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine successfully staved off elimination by defeating Penn State DuBois 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Softball World Series.

Brandywine overcame a two-run deficit by scoring four times in the third inning. Destiny Brophy (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) had the biggest hit of the frame, sending a two-out, two-run double to right-center field, giving Brandywine the lead.

Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led off the third with a single and came around to score on Payton Landis' (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) base hit with the Lions' first run. Karly Rees' (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) sacrifice fly plated Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) before Brophy delivered her two-base hit.

The Lions padded their lead with a three-run sixth inning as Taylor D'Attilio (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) sent a pinch-hit single through the middle to score Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Memorial) and Landis added a two-run double.

Landis collected three of Brandywine's nine hits, while James added two knocks and two runs scored.

Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) upped her record to 6-1 after needing just 67 pitches to fire a complete game. She yielded single runs during the second and third innings, but held DuBois off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Moore scattered five hits and struck out two.

Brandywine (33-12) will face Miami-Hamilton in another elimination game Tuesday night at 9:00 PM.
