Brandywine Drops First Game After Break At Widener

MEDIA, Pa. -- Following a 14-day break for the holidays, the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team was topped 74-38 at Widener on Wednesday night during its return to the court.

Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) scored six of Brandywine's 10 first quarter points, but the Lions trailed the Pride 16-10 through 10 minutes. Widener doubled its lead by halftime as the Pride netted nine of the final 12 points during the stanza to make the score 31-19.

An 11-2 run to open the second half pushed Brandywine's deficit to 21 points and the Lions could not recover after connecting on just seven field goal attempts during the final 20 minutes.

Brandywine was limited to 27 percent shooting overall, while Widener made 40 percent of its shots from the field and held a 49-33 edge on the boards.

James netted 11 points, while Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) added seven points and Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) topped the team by grabbing seven rebounds.

Brandywine (6-5) travels to Bryn Athyn Friday night at 7:00 pm for the teams' second meeting of the season. Brandywine owns a 64-41 neutral court victory over BAC on Nov. 19.
