Lions Fall In Return From Break

MEDIA, Pa. -- Immaculata University scored 19 of the first 21 points and never looked back during a 67-40 victory over the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team during the Lions' return from the 24-day holiday break on Monday night.

The Mighty Macs shot 36 percent from field and held a 57-42 edge in the rebounding column. Brandywine was limited to 21 percent shooting.

Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) knocked down a trio of three-pointers, scoring a team-high 12 points, while Dairayonna Stewart-Harold (New Castle, Del./William Penn) added eight points and Kira Thorne (Alconbury, England/Alconbury) chipped in seven points for the Lions.

Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) pulled in nine boards, while Velez and Ally Giannakarios (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) each collected six. Dana D'Ambrosio (Secane, Pa./Ridley) tallied five of Brandywine's 11 steals.

Immaculata led 19-7 after one quarter and extended the margin to 31-15 at halftime. The hosts put the game out of reach by outscoring Brandywine 36-25 during the final 20 minutes.

Brandywine (8-4, 6-1 PSUAC), which saw its six-game winning streak come to a close, will be back at home Tuesday night to host Vermont Tech at 6:00 pm.
